The team started off strong going four-zero. They return home on April 9 to take on Mason. ‘. These are the types of matches we train for all year,’ senior Aditya Venkitarama said.

Instead of taking spring break off like most students at SHS, the Varsity tennis team traveled to Cleveland to play their first three matches of the 2015 season.

Strong play from all courts led to four-one victories over St. Ignatius (ranked third in the preseason polls), Massillon Jackson (sixth in the preseason polls), and Copley (Unranked in the preseason polls).

“Even though we had some players fall ill on the trip, we still came out with some solid victories that will definitely give us confidence moving forward,” sophomore Regis Liou said.

The team then took to the road after the break against Fairfield on April 7. They swept all courts taking the match five-zero. They also defeated Hamilton on April 7.

“My teammates really played well. We earned two solid victories to open up GMC play,” Liou said.

The schedule will not ease up, as the team will take on rival Mason on Thurs. April 9, and will double up against Toledo St. Johns (Preseason ranked second) and Cincinnati Country Day (Defending DII State Champions) on April 11 at 9 am and 1 pm respectively.

“We look forward to the challenge of three extremely tough matches in a span of two days. These are the types of matches we train for all year. They should be exciting,” senior Aditya Venkitarama said.
