Aviator Chorale, Bella Voce compete at state

Aviator Chorale and Bella Voce competed at the state competition on April 27 at Lakota East High School, where the former received an excellent rating and the latter received a superior.

The musical repertoire for each choir was selected from tiered lists that categorized the ensembles into different classifications based on music difficulty, with Aviator Chorale competing in Class C and Bella Voce in Class B.

For the event, each ensemble performs three prepared pieces on stage for three judges, receiving a rating from each as well as written feedback about their performance.

Then, each must participate in sight reading. This portion of the competition consists of a four-minute reading section, where the ensemble can consider the piece without singing. Then the group sings once with piano accompaniment.

After this first reading, there is a minute provided for students to identify and work on difficult parts without singing before singing again. This second reading is done a capella.
