MENU. In addition to events celebrating diversity in the lunchroom, students are also able to explore and enjoy food from different countries around the world. The menu included foods from Greece, Thailand, Morocco, India, and Mexico. The cafeteria staff was able to provide an additional diverse experience for the students.

After everyone finishes their masks, Mrs. Lesley Chapman, the french teacher, holds a contest to find the best and most creative ones. This year sophomores Ellie Armstrong and Menon won the contest, winning a Toblerone bar each.

HAIL MOTHER NATURE. This is one of the hails from the hailstorm this morning. Many students were hit by the hail but it didn’t cause any severe injuries. The storm lasted very shortly but was a very heavy downpour. “I was inside when [the storm] happened but it was really crazy,” said Grace Creek, 10.

ABOVE AND BEYOND. Taking the architecture assignment a step further, the architecture class plans to not build the usual shed but a home. This is the model that the home will be based off of that was made by Allison Falvin, 12. “We hope to help the future generation to begin funding their projects and hopefully encourage them to dream big,” Flavin said.

In 2017 the user can control their homes basic functions such as turning lights on and off, turning on a fan, changing light color, etc. They may be able to do much more in the upcoming years, but the possibilties are endless. “Sometimes Siri annoys me but I do love her when she actually helps me,” said Colliver.

WRITE ON. The Creative Writing class is a good way to relax during the school day even if you are not that interested in writing. Teachers gave prompts, activities, and poems to students to help foster creativity. There are multiple ways the teachers try to get students inspired.

DIRECT. Senior Sarah Horne performs a direct examination of her witness, played by junior Adam Meller, at the regional mock trial competition. The purpose of direct is to allow the witnesses on one’s own side give their side of the case and is extensively prepared and practiced beforehand. Both attorneys and witnesses are scored based on the content and presentation.

CELEBRATE. Representatives from the Chinese School Association in the United States introduce the Greater Cincinnati Chinese School’s (GCCS) Chinese New Year celebration. Chinese families from all over Cincinnati gathered to watch traditional performances, eat, and commune during the biggest Chinese holiday. GCCS is hosted by SHS every Sunday afternoon, teaching many American-born Chinese children (or Chinese Second Language children) about Mandarin reading, writing, and culture.
