FIC BREAK. A laptop open to fanfiction site Archive of Our Own, also known as “AO3,” which is the host to most prominent fic authors and my personal favorite place to read fanfiction. Many fic authors also link their work on other sites like Tumblr and Instagram, which allows fellow fans to share and discuss fics.

STUDY HARD. Sophomore Grace Koo spends her Aviator bell doing homework to minimize her daily work load. Most students spend Aviator bell with their friends instead of taking advantage of the thirty minutes of study hall they have each day. Make sure to spend your time wisely to ensure you will have free time that night or on the weekend. “Outside of school I try to keep a list of goals for the day because it helps me stay on track and be focused on my priorities. And if I have trouble focusing at home doing hw and assignments I go to the library or a coffee shop bc the change of setting gives me a better working environment and motivation,” Koo said.

COFFEE ADDICT. This coffee cup may look innocent enough, but one 8 ounce cup like this contains almost 200 milligrams of caffeine, double the amount of caffeine a teen should be consuming daily. This addictive drink has become the vice of countless teenagers over the years, and only more are joining the group. “I rely on it [coffee] to sustain me and it’s just a part of my schedule now, as it’s been since the sixth grade,” says Hager Hamed, a senior who admits to being an avid coffee lover.

CRAFTY. These were the go-to craft! Perler beads are small, plastic beads that can be arranged on a small peg board to make designs, ranging from simple to extremely detailed. Afterwards, you would get your design ironed and see how the plastic melts, your beads stick together, and your design is permanent. The focus and determination it took to place these small beads one by one on the board really enticed us as children!

WHERE DOES YOUR PHONE FIT? As technology continues to dominate all aspects of our lives, the question of whether cell phone usage has a place at the dinner table or not remains more prevalent than ever. However, seeing that using cellphones during a meal decreases social connectivity and enjoyment, it is time for our technology to find a new home. “There is no place at a place setting for your phone… Phones should be off,” said Daniel Post Senning, co-president of the Emily Post Institute, to the Washington Post.

BACKPACKS. One of the best things about the high school is a newly acquired freedom that was not available at the junior high—being able to carry a backpack. Freshman Cami Matthews said, “It’s such a relief to not have to go to my locker, like, every two bells. It’s really nice.”
