SPEAKING OUT. The students and staff of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School have recently released a book that is sure to change lives. This novel, titled “Parkland Speaks: Survivors from Marjory Stoneman Douglas Share their Stories” is a collection of poems, essays, letters, artwork, and photographs that depict the feelings and emotional trauma that the members of this community went through this time last year. “After the shooting I spent probably a month just writing poems, writing my thoughts out and I felt that was one of the ways I could slowly begin my healing process,” said one of the student contributors, Caitlynn Tibbetts, according to NBC News.

TEACH AND LEARN. The Sycamore Teaching Professions Academy (TPA) is a class SHS offers for students who want to work with children in the future. The class is for students who want to be teachers, go into social work, something with pediatrics, therapy and more. Seniors take two bells worth of TPA and go off into the community and student teach or shadow a professional. “Taking TPA has been my greatest choice of high school! I have learned so much about education, which has not only prepared me to be a better teacher but has also helped me become a better student. TPA has been an incredible foundation to build this dream upon!” said senior Mallory Comerford.

MOOD. As our moods fluctuate, so can our perception of clothes, especially the color of clothing. Power is often associated with the classic black and white, usually including red accents as well. On the other hand, relaxing days call for neutrals and pastels. Regardless,
the Psychologist World suggests that “the clothes we wear send powerful signals to our peers and strangers, projecting the self image of us that we want to display.”

WOODWIND. Second bell band takes the stage. They played “Children’s March” by Percy Grainger, “Danzon No. 2” by Arturo Marquez, and “Dusk” by Steven Bryant. “My favorite piece was ‘Danzon No. 2’. It painted a really vivid picture in my head and it was super fun and lively. You could feel all the different parts coming together,” said Connor Close, 11.
