Wittenbaum has played with SHS tennis for the majority of his school career. His signing event was played off with great fanfare, being the first one this year. Now that he has signed, he has committed to attending Marian University.

During 7th bell on Friday, Sept. 19, SHS held their first collegiate sports signing of the year.

Boys Varsity Tennis senior Alex Wittenbaum signed with Division III Marian University in Indianapolis.

“I thought it was fun to see the signing. It was a great ceremony,” sophomore Bradley Bolotin said.

Wittenbaum was a member of the 2014 State Championship team, coached by Michael Teets. Teets spoke at the meeting, saying that Wittenbaum, “bleeds green and gold, and now he will be bleeding blue and white.” Wittenbaum’s future college coach spoke as well and talked about his recruiting process.

Wittenbaum’s family was on hand, as well as his teammates on the State Championship varsity team. Community members, teachers and coaches were on hand to watch the ceremony as well.

Marian won the MCC Conference Championship last season, their second championship in their history. Marian also participated in the NAIA Championships last season, their third in history, and won the 2013-14 Crossroad League Championship.

Wittenbaum looks to improve himself and his team overall going into the 2014-15 season, but first, he must look to bring another state championship to SHS.
