The Girls Cross Country Team is aiming to return to the Division I Regional meet. In his first year in the role of head coach for the girls team, Rick Shomo, and assistant coach, Greg Pottebaum, have to balance demanding workouts that bring out the teams’ best performances with recovery to make sure athletes remain healthy and able to complete when it matters most.
The top eight local teams will earn a regional berth. “The team has a great chance of going to regionals because all of our scoring members are stronger and more motivated than ever to achieve success. Led by Rose Menyhert and Kamaria Walton and backed by Jodie Lawson, Allison Kossen and me, we have what it takes to compete with the best teams in the city.” senior Megan Rogge said.
Health is a vital theme as the team makes a bid for a regional run. Notably, three of the five scorers have faced injury challenges this season. “If our top five runners are healthy at the districts I’m sure we will advance,” Shomo said.
