Last year’s homecoming had a much better turn out than Winter Formal the previous year. After an anonymous voting process during an ACE bell, winter formal was cancelled. No definite plans to replace it have been made.

Although it is just like any other school dance, people do not usually go to Winter Formal.

“Two years ago there was low attendance. I think that it happened because people associate winter with being a romantic dance and so many people don’t want to go. In reality, it’s just like homecoming,” senior class president Grace Hertlein said.

Winter formal is similar to homecoming, but the biggest difference is the time. Student Council decorates the commons and the hallways, girls get to go dress shopping and guys wear suits. It is not considered a romantic dance.

“It acts as a senior class fundraiser, and the seniors of last year made the decision to save their money for a bigger senior gift instead of a dance that not many people would attend,” Hertlein said.

Will the Student Council decide to have a replacement dance if Winter Formal does not work out?

“With low ticket sales, it was a bad investment. That being said, we are considering having a holiday mixer. This would be a new look at a familiar concept with less expensive entry and just as much fun,” senior student council member Adam Lucken said.
