Perfect North has a total of 23 trails and 2 terrain parks, and covers 100 acres of skiable land. It has been open since 1980, and didn’t allow snowboarding until 2002. It is known for being the place where Olympic bronze medalist Nick Goepper got started.

With the new academic quarter coming into full swing, the ski club is getting ready for their season too. Perfect North  has been open since before break, and the club has been out 3 times already with the colder conditions.
“I have been in ski club since freshman year, and even did it in seventh and eighth grade. My family loves to ski, so this is a good way to keep getting better, while having fun with friends,” said Melinda Looney, 11.
The club goes out after school on Tuesdays during the season, and a bus provides transportation there and back every week. Since the club pays the buses, members get bus passes on Monday so that they can have enough seats.

“Having the buses take us there and back each week is extremely helpful, I feel like I wouldn’t make it out nearly as much because it takes a lot of time out of your day round trip. This way I can do homework on the bus and not have excessive amounts when I get home,” Looney said.
Members can either bring their own equipment or rent at Perfect, and if they bring their own they can put it in a locker in the upper gym on Tuesday mornings before class. There are areas at Perfect to repair equipment too if needed.
Renting equipment is easy and can be done for both skiing and snowboarding. Rentals include boots, skis or snowboards, poles for skiers, and helmets. There are lockers available for rent to put personal items in.
“I have to rent skis because I don’t have my own, but the process is relatively easy. You have to fill out a waiver and then pick out your boot size and they will give you skis depending on your size,” Looney said.
