Cincinnati to commemorate Doris Day
DAZZLE. Doris Day is an influential member of American media and animal rights activism. Cincinnati has honored her with a secondary name for Walnut Street downtown. Sept. 27 is also announced as Doris Day Day.
In the 1950s and 1960s, many big screens were flooded with the images of one famous woman, a woman who has been in a total of 39 feature films.
Doris Day is not only an influential singer and actress in America’s media culture, but she also supplements her dazzling career with important animal rights activism.
The Cincinnati native created numerous organizations and programs to protect the rights and welfare of animals; her organizations, such as The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), continue to use lobbying and legislation to protect animals in need.
Day was honored on Wed., Sept. 27 with the official second name of Walnut Street in downtown Cincinnati as Doris Day Way, a decision that was made by City Council.
In addition, that day has been declared as Doris Day Day, Mayor John Cranley made the official proclamation.
Festivities were held to commemorate the occasion, including showcasing some of Day’s films. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Doris Day Animal Foundation.
