OPINION: After the recent attack on Ohio State University (OSU), a question that has swept the nation in the past has resurfaced. The question is whether or not college campuses should allow concealed...

The Ohio State University football coach Urban Meyer and former running back Ezekiel Elliott are celebrating their eighth national championship. They won the first title in the new playoff system for college football. While the new system has had remarkable success, the way conferences chose the champions has been a highlighted flaw.

November 2016 Columns: Legalizing marijuana, examining SEC, finding common ground with sports

Max Torem, Lauren Kurtzer, and Joshua Patterson December 16, 2016

OPINION: I am not a stoner. I do not smoke marijuana. I do not recommend getting high. I do, however, support the legalization of the drug. Regardless of whether or not it is legal, marijuana is...

ONWARD. This year has had a mix of ups and downs. Memorable moments include the death of Harambe the gorilla, the Rio Olympics, and the presidential election. This last year at SHS has also been memorable, with the football team advancing the farthest they ever have, the tennis team winning their third state title in a row, and the district levy passing in November.

December 2016 Staff Editorial: Reflecting on the past year, looking on to the next

December 9, 2016

This past year has been a mix of both good and bad. We saw highs when it came to sports franchises breaking historic droughts and a massive discovery relating to ALS. Some of our favorite musicians released...

Students bring a wide array of unique experiences with them everyday to school, which helps to shape the identity that SHS prides itself on. “The Leaf” has dedicated this issue to exploring these stories.

November 2016 Staff Editorial: Everyone has a story

November 28, 2016

As we grow older, perspective is something that we all gain. Perspective is important to life. Once you have it, you become more aware of the people around you and what they think and believe. Your focus...

Black Lives Matter protests take place outside the courthouse during and following the trial of Sam Tensing. The movement fights for reform and attention to African Americans being killed by police. City leaders are working to keep the situation safe for everyone involved.

Cincinnati ‘Tensing’ after mistrial

Jenna Bao, Creative Projects Director November 18, 2016

Cincinnati has recently joined the ranks of cities across the country that have failed to indict police officers recklessly using force with the recent non-conclusion of the Ray Tensing trial. On July...

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril tackles Buffalo Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor during the Monday night Football primetime games on November 7. There has been a hysteria going around the league about the ratings, especially during the lack of compelling primetime games. The drop in ratings come from factors in and out of the league.

Not failing league

Lauren Kurtzer, Creative Projects Director November 14, 2016

Yes, the National Football League’s (NFL) ratings are dropping. No, it is not because some players are not standing for the National Anthem or the league’s lack of consistent discipline. No, the league...

The first female nominee for a significant political party shines a spotlight on the issues of women. The policies that further gender equality and pinpoint issues that affect women are crucial to keep the momentum for women’s issues going. Hillarys slogan is stronger together. Photo courtesy: MCT

Max Torem and Joshua Patterson November 5, 2016

OPINION: Surely by now you have heard about the clown craze in Cincinnati and in other surrounding areas. Surely by now you are thinking, “Oh, that will never happen to me.” I am here to tell you...

Clinton speaks in front of a crowd in Florida. This ugly election cycle, to many, has been exhausting. But looking past the orange haze that has descended upon America reveals a candidate that truly believes that we are Stronger Together.

What it means to inspire

Adhiti Chundur, Print Editor-in-chief November 4, 2016

To be inspiring does not necessarily mean parading around onstage, waving pom poms, and cracking jokes with the crowd (although there is nothing wrong with that). Inspiration can be in the form of quiet,...

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton is sacked by Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Terrell McClain during a game in Dallas on Sun., Oct. 9 that resulted in a 28-14 Cowboys win. The Bengals played the Washington Redskins in London on Sun., Oct. 30, and the teams tied 27-27. The second week with a tie have brought up the conversation again of fixing the overtime rules.

Tying up tied games

Lauren Kurtzer, Creative Projects Director November 3, 2016

Ties are an idiotic way to settle a brutal game of football; the rules governing it are just as moronic. The 32 National Football League (NFL) teams prepare each week with the sole goal of winning,...
