The Leaf

Linya Guo
Hello! My name is Linya Guo and I am a senior member of the Leaf. The start of this school year marks my second year in the journalism program; I am excited to further develop my journalism skills, learn from different experiences, and guide this program’s newcomers. Last year, my position was the Art and Photo Editor; this year, I am the Art and Entertainment (A&E) Chief. I oversee all the stories, infographics, and photos in the A&E section, as well as the design and layout of the section in our newspaper. One of the most important parts of my role, if not the most, is to communicate; I must constantly converse with the staff writers of the A&E section, bouncing off ideas and giving feedback to their work, and additionally must communicate with the other section Chiefs and editors to make decisions on which works to be put in the monthly issue. I am delighted to take on this responsibility, as well as honored to have this opportunity to enhance my skills in leadership, communication, and more.

Not only do I have ardor for journalistic writing, but I am passionate about creative writing as well. I have won several local writing competitions for my poetry and short prose, and I have also placed third for Promising Young Talent in the Power of the Pen state competition. Over the past summer, I attended the Kenyon Review Young Writers Workshop, where my love for writing was further enhanced. Though as a high school senior amidst the college application frenzy, I continue to write poetry and prose in my free time (though mostly poetry, due to the shorter length). Besides writing, my activities include violin, piano, tennis, calligraphy, oil painting, and ASMR creation of drinks (which you can check out on Instagram at @__linyaa). For my senior year, I am planning to magnify my adventurous spirit and join more clubs and activities (I’ve had my eye on K-POP club for a while!). Thank you to all who have taken on the laborious task of reading up to this point.
