Many people may know the box office smash hit movie “Jurassic Park” and the many movies that follow it, but not many know of the book that the movie was based off of it and the numbers of differences in the two pieces of media.
Some of the main differences between the movie and the book are:
One
The maker of the park, John Hammond, is shown as less of a dinosaur loving, kind hearted person and more of the villain of the story. He cares more about the money being made than the dinosaurs. In the book, he can not take the idea of him being the problem of the park’s problems.
Two
At the end of the book, the park is not left standing as the government finds out what happened and chooses to bomb the island to protect the people of the world. In the movie, it ends with the dinosaurs running free on the island.
Three
Lastly, the character of Gennaro went from a caring character in the book to a greedy and selfish person. This is a very different person from the book and the movie, practically being two separate characters.
In conclusion, the “Jurassic Park” movies and book keep a lot of things the same, but the few changes the movie makes over the book heavily impacts the feel of the story, and the cuts the movie makes changes the impact of the movie. By leaving out some of the big scenes and character plots with the dinosaurs, humans, and chaos that come with it, the movies give less of a clear look at why the park fell apart and the horror of the collapse. Because of this, people have forgotten what happens in the book. Both stories are still good and hold up to this day, but all of the changes impact each story and make them different.
