We talked to AP Language Arts teacher Mrs. Erin Vore and asked her about her experiences as a teacher.
Q: How would you say you deal with the stresses of being a teacher, as well as having your own life to commit to?
A: We have a job to do, so it’s like, how do you do all the things, you know? My family always comes first, but sometimes they get the leftovers of me because I’m so exhausted from the school day. But I try and get what I can done at school, so that when I’m home, I’m fully present; I can be with my family and enjoy my life.
Q: How would you say something like Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and your knee surgery played into your teaching?
A: It’s a reminder that life is unpredictable. I didn’t see MS coming when I was diagnosed with it, and it definitely took me by surprise. But life goes on; you cope and usually, life gets better. That’s been true for me.
Q: Why did you become a teacher?
A: I love teens–I don’t know how anyone could do this job if they don’t like teens. My former department chair, Alford says, “I became a teacher so I could be a student forever” and that’s pretty much how I feel.
