Gary Traub: Wrestling
Nicknamed “Gas Tank Gary”, the wrestling star from Blue Ash graduated from SHS in 2015 with all-time record for pins and wins (138). After high school, Traub would go on to wrestle for The Ohio State University where he would finish with a career record of 54-26.
Kevin Youkilis: Baseball
The class of ‘97 baseball star led the Aves to the Amateur Athletic Union championship in 1994 while batting .475. He chose to stay close to home and attended the University of Cincinnati, and after a stellar college career he was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 2001. During his time in Boston, he won 2 World Series championships and was a 3-time all-star, he also won the Gold Glove in 2007 for being the best fielder at his position, and the Hank Aaron Award in 2008 for best hitter in the MLB.
Carson Foster: Swimming
The former Sycamore Swim & Dive star set the national high school record in the 200m freestyle as an Aviator. Since graduating, he has been a 13-time All-American, and 4-time NCAA champion (1 team, 3 individuals) at the University of Texas. This summer, Foster represented America at the 2024 Paris Olympics, taking home one silver and one bronze medal.
Michael Matthews: Football
Despite not being highly recruited in high school, Matthews exemplified the grit that is so prevalent in aviator athletics and was able to get an offer to play college football at Georgia Tech. After a stellar collegiate career, Matthews was picked up by the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent. During his NFL career, Matthews would help the Giants win the Super Bowl as a tight end in 2007.
AVES ON THE ASCENT
Nick Meyers: Tennis
The tennis star who graduated from SHS last year, now plays college tennis at Denison. During his time at Sycamore, he had the attention of anyone in the know about Ohio high school tennis during his career in which he helped lead the aves to 3 state championships.
Raliegh Burgess: Basketball
A 2024 graduate who currently plays basketball for Purdue, Burgess led the Aves averaging 15 points and 10 rebounds in his final season for the Aviators, and was a top 100 player in the country for his class.
