SHS’s FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) robotics team, Machbusters #9097, is hosting a FLL-E–FIRST Lego League Explore–competition for young aviators. Machbusters is part of the larger Sycamore push toward forging a better future by shaping tomorrow’s innovators, leaders, scientists, and businessmen. The team continues to promote STEAM education in the Sycamore community by engaging the younger generations with hands-on robotics experiences.
FLL-E is a constituent of the broader FIRST LEGO League educational programs. It is specifically tailored to cater to the cognitive and developmental needs of children aged seven to 10 years; it is designed for young students to engage in hands-on STEM learning through fun challenges and competitions using LEGOs. Machbusters Outreach Lead Jaden Reyes explains, “Our mission is to shift STEM education toward accessibility at a young age by offering robotics opportunities for students in grades K-12. This is done by serving elementary school students and enriching their STEM exposures; we have judges of core constructs while simultaneously assessing [students’] design capabilities as future engineers to catalyze further STEM engagements.”
Machbuster’s FLL-E is paving the way for future robotics team members, one student at a time.
