Every September, students scoring in the top one percent on the PSAT are recognized as National Merit Semifinalists.
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation provides scholarship application materials to Semifinalists through their high schools. To be considered for a National Merit Scholarship, Semifinalists must advance to a Finalist standing by meeting high academic standards and all other requirements explained in the information packet provided to each Semifinalist.
More than 16,000 students across the country have become Semifinalists, but the cut-off score varies from state to state. This year in Ohio, the cut-off selection index score was 217.
