Government and Politics:
- A district judge ordered the reinstatement of Hampton Dellinger, the head of the US whistleblower agency, as she considers his lawsuit challenging his termination.
- A third federal judge blocked President Donald Trump’s executive order ending birthright citizenship for the children of people illegally in the US.
- President Donald Trump says he has ordered the US Mint to stop making pennies because it is “wasteful” and costs more than 1 cent to make.
- Hamas, a Palestinian militant group currently fighting against Israel in the Gaza Strip, has said that the next hostage release originally scheduled for this past Saturday would be postponed because they allege Israel had failed to abide by the terms of the hostage release agreement.
- Pete Hegseth, the US Defense Secretary, ordered an immediate pause to all gender-affirming medical care for US service members.
- A federal judge has extended the pause on the deadline for the 30-day paid resignation plan the Trump administration offered federal workers.
- Another federal judge paused the Trump administration’s funding freeze for foreign aid.
- Nearly two dozen states have sued the Trump administration over cuts to public health research funding.
- President Trump signed an executive order for a 25% tariff on all steel and aluminum imports with no exceptions or exemptions.
- President Trump also removed David Huitema, the head of the Office of Government Ethics, from his post, and named Veteran Affairs Secretary Doug Collins as interim head.
- President Trump also signed an executive order that encourages the return of plastic drinking straws, a move opposite that of former President Joe Biden, who pushed for a reduction in plastic straw use.
- On Tuesday, the inspector general of the US Agency for International Development, Paul Martin, was fired.
- The release of Marc Fogel, an American teacher detained by Russia, was secured.
- The acting US attorney in New York, Danielle Sassoon, and 5 others quit over the Trump administration’s order to dismiss their corruption case against New York Mayor Eric Adams.
- On Thursday, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was confirmed as the secretary for the US Department of Health and Human Services, with Senator Mitch McConnell as the sole Republican joining Democrats to vote against him.
Arts and Entertainment:
- S.N.L celebrated 50 years with a three-hour primetime special, with guest stars such as Sabrina Carpenter, Paul McCartney, and Lil Wayne Roots.
Sports:
- Lukas Engel has joined FC Cincinnati on loan from Middlesborough FC and Middles.
- Luciano Acosta from FC Cincinnati joined FC Dallas.
Local News:
- Sunday morning, the Greater Cincinnati area got several inches of snow.
Other News:
- Certain canned tuna products sold at Costco, Walmart, and other retailers have been recalled due to the risk of getting botulism.
