Just in her freshman year, Delilah Shepherd-Easton, 9, has already made a strong impact on the SHS athletic program. She has earned a spot on the SHS Girls’ Varsity basketball team as a freshman and is competing on a 16U team in AAU basketball.
Shepherd-Easton’s basketball journey started in fifth grade after years of playing soccer, drawn by the aggression and her knowledge of the game. She then realized she could transfer her soccer skills to the court, like applying her ability to read the field by analyzing positioning of both her opponents and teammates. From there, she committed herself to constant improvement, which led to her landing a spot on varsity.
Balancing a demanding schedule has not been easy, but Shepherd-Easton approaches challenges with focus and maturity. She uses study hall and free periods to get her school work done, allowing time to dedicate herself to athletics after school. Through basketball, she has developed problem solving, leadership, and conflict solving skills, preparing her not only for basketball, but a career later in life. Hardworking, passionate, and empathetic, Shepherd-Easton is just getting started.
