On weekday mornings, while most students are still asleep, Evi Goetz, 10, and her co-founders run one of the most successful clubs at SHS, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes—also known as FCA. Goetz is sophomore with an instinct for leadership and quiet conviction.
FCA came to be through conversations at the kitchen table, a trusted circle of friends, and the confidence to ask for help. FCA meetings are intentionally simple: donuts, laughter, a couple of games, and a short talk that is in reflection rather than performance. “It’s welcoming,” said Goetz, especially for students who may not feel confident in their faith or are simply curious. The space invites conversation, connection, and encouragement across grade levels and experiences.
Beyond FCA, Goetz balances soccer, academic commitments, and service-based clubs. Nevertheless, her relationship with God helps her throughout the day. “I come out of the meetings feeling encouraged and remembering that God loves us no matter what we’ve done,” said Goetz. High school, she believes, is not about stacking achievements; it is about “building relationships.” At just 16, Goetz is already proving that leadership does not need a spotlight—just intention, courage, and a willingness to begin.
