Immediately following the school day, one might find themselves at Octaviation practice, another group representing what it means to be an SHS student. Each practice looks different depending on what big performances are coming up during the month. Sometimes the practice is only vocals or only choreography, based on what the group needs to work on the most. A senior member of Octaviation, Hannah Donnellan, 12, said the most challenging part of practice is vocals, because it is so specific and hard to perfect. When they get it correct, this is also the most rewarding part of practice from her perspective.
The group also regularly competes for spots in acapella festivals. Donnellan said her favorite memory was during one of these festivals when they “got a Friday night showcase for Nordonia that only six groups out of about 40 get.” This was a huge accomplishment for Octaviation, getting the opportunity to be a part of such a large and sought-after performance. This talented group works very hard after long school days, just the same as any school sport or club.
