Prom is the epitome of what kids picture high school to be. From watching movies about prom to dreaming about prom dresses, bouquets, and dancing the night away. Prom is at the center of kids’ high school dreams, but the true masterpiece is the months of planning that goes into creating this perfect night.
The student council takes on the responsibility of planning prom. The team, led by Spanish teacher Kate Korchok, fearlessly approaches this large task using their own tried and true system. The process starts by booking the venue a full year in advance. The venue has historically been The Mason Manor House. To be able to hold prom here, they have to decide the date and put down a deposit as early as possible. In fact, the deposit has already been put down for prom 2027.
The planning process picks up again the January before prom. During this month, the team sets a menu for what will be served for dinner, books a DJ, and ensures there will be security on the night of prom. March is when planning picks up, as tickets go on sale for students and table requests are due. Student Council must then collect a headcount to provide enough tables, seats, and meals, for all students in attendance. They also must secure chaperones for the night. Finally, Student Council puts together meal cards, table numbers, and the voting form for prom royalty.
This year while you are dancing the night away, take a look around and think about all the time, and effort that was put into creating this perfect night.
