Due to seniors graduating, last year’s team lost 12 members. This year’s team consists of 13 members. They will be working on their hip hop dance for the pep rally in the upcoming weeks.

The Flyerettes Varsity Dance Team has been practicing all summer for their performances. The team had tryouts in late May for the 2014-15 season.

Over the summer, the dancers had practice on Tues. nights from 6:30-8:30 p.m. In Aug. they traveled to Miami University for dance camp. There, the dancers learned dances, tricks and new technique motions to strengthen the difficulty of their dances.

“I had so much fun at dance camp. I think it strengthened our bond as a team and we learned new things that we can now put into our dances,” sophomore Jordan Hoffman said.

Now that the school year has resumed, the team practices on Tues. and Thurs. nights from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Their first performance for the school was at the Variety Show on Sept. 26.

“The dance we did for the Variety Show was jazz, hip hop and pom,” Hoffman said.

The Variety Show helped them prepare for their first performance in front of the entire student body. This will take place at the fall pep rally on Oct. 10.

“The pep rally will be my first time dancing in front of the whole school and I’m kind of nervous,” Hoffman said.
