Man jumps over White House fence**
October 6, 2014
Omar Gonzalez scaled the fence surrounding the White House, ran to the building itself, and entered an open door while armed with a knife on Sept. 19. Once inside, he was subdued by secret service.
“It’s kind of like the guy who got into the royal garden in England,” freshman Maia Davidson said. “He actually went through the front door.”
The two situations are very similar, although in this case, the criminal was caught. The interruption itself has caused a new fence to be built around the house and traffic to be closed on Pennsylvania Avenue.
“I actually went to Washington D.C. over the weekend,” sophomore Priya Sakthivel said. “I saw the White House, but I didn’t get to go inside.”
Gonzalez has been arrested before and is currently facing charges for unlawful entry. Luckily, no one was hurt during the entry and the president and his family were not at the house.
As sophomore Priya Malla said, “It’s good they caught him.”
