Before every match, the Varsity Green team lines up on the court in front of the opposing team. Members’ names are announced and they shake hands with their opponents.

After introductions to the opposing team, players all gather together for a loud team cheer. This builds excitement and intensity for the match.

Each player goes to her respective court and begins a 10 minute warm up before beginning the match. This time allows for strategizing against the opponent’s strengths and weaknesses.

Often times, many doubles matches are won with fast-paced volleys at the net. Sophomore Beverly Liu frequently played doubles for the Varsity Green Tennis team.

As a Sycamore tradition, players must high-five between every single point. This emphasizes spirit, sportsmanship, and passion.

Serves also make a big impact during the match. “When I serve, I focus on where to aim the ball so I can use the opponent’s weakness,” junior Serena Kaul said.

Freshman Kaitlyn Jiang won many matches at the doubles position. “Being on the tennis team made my freshman year easier because it allowed me to befriend people from all other grades. It was a great season overall,” Jiang said.
