Although there are negative temperatures outside the softball team has not been deterred. The Varsity and JV teams officially started practice on Mar. 2.

“I’ve been waiting since the last game last year to start up practice again,” senior Lydia Sloan said.

The team has been practicing hitting, fielding, lifting, and conditioning since November. With the loss of seven senior players last year, the younger players must step in to fill their positions.

“It’s really weird that the senior players are not here because they have played with us for three years,” Sloan said.

Tryouts were held during the week of Feb. 23. All participating players were divided into the Varsity and JV teams. One freshmen, Jessica Fehr, made the Varsity team, while other freshmen may act as swing players.

“Being a swing player means that I play for JV normally but I move to Varsity if they need me for some reason,” freshmen Eve Waters said.

With the difficult weather conditions and cold temperatures, the team has been practicing in the main gym, although they hope to move outside to the field soon.  The condition of the field is questionable, however, because of the large amounts of snow and rain.

The team’s first scrimmage is on Mar. 19 when they will see if their work has paid off.
