Frida Kahlo is a 20th century Mexican artist well known for her self-portraits. Her career as a painter started after a car accident which caused severe injuries to the lower body.
Her work shows colorful symbolic images of physical and psychological pain and influences of religions and cultures including indigenous Mexico. “I never painted dreams. I painted my own reality,” said Kahlo.
A feminist and realist, Frida Kahlo brought to life a unique and truly Mexican style of self-expression.
