Rounding third on scrimmages
April 4, 2015
The varsity softball team has been playing a number of scrimmages to prepare for their first game on March 30th. On Sat. the team played a double header against, Fenwick and Carlisle.
When they played Fenwick the team lost two to zero. Their defense was sound, but their bats were asleep.
“When we played Fenwick I felt that our defense did a good job, but we need to work on our outfield work. Unfortunately we were not hitting the ball on that first game so it was hard to win the game,” junior Paige Cassidy said.
The next game they played that day was against Carlisle. The Lady Aves won that game six to four. It was zero to six until the top of the seventh inning, when Carlisle made a comeback and scored four runs.
“We did okay in that game, but then we let it fall apart at the end, we need to focus on finishing the game and not making stupid errors,” senior Lydia Sloan said.
On March the 24 SHS played MND at home, then were able to win the game six to three. It was tied three to three in the bottom of the seventh.
“We were at the top of our line up and the first two batters got on base; then I got up to the plate and hit the ball to the right fielder,” sophomore Elizabeth Izworski said.
“That brought one person in and since we have very aggressive base runners the other team was just throwing the ball around, I was able to get a home run,” Izworski said.
The team’s next scrimmage is on March 26, at King’s High School.
