Girls Lacrosse

Our girls lacrosse team are the state champions and they are ready for the season. The girls have been preparing for the spring knowing they will have a target on their back.
“Being state champions last year showed us how much work we have to put in to win. We are just working as hard as we can this year to get there,” sophomore Emily Wise said.
After they won state they took a week off and began summer conditioning, followed by lifting throwing and running twice a week during the winter. They did the same conditioning before heading into daily full team practices.
“I am really looking forward to how we compete this year. We are travelling to Chicago and Michigan to play some really good teams so it will be fun to see how we do,” captain, senior Madeline Locke said.
They also had open gyms one night a week where they ran drills and scrimmages against each other.
As the season drew near, they had practices once a week called individuals where three or four girls at the same position met to specialize on that position.
“It is different from last year because everyone doubts us. We lost eight senior starters from last season so no one believes we have the talent to win it again or even come close,” captain, senior Brittany Murphy said.
There has been no SHS sports team who has been back to back state champions.
“I think the team loves that everyone doubts us because they have no idea what is coming. Our team has the potential to be better than last year’s team and we cannot wait to show everyone how wrong they are,” Murphy said.
