As the Junior Varsity (JV) and the Varsity B (VB) tennis teams finish their undefeated seasons, the Varsity A (VA) begins road to state, with the beginning of the post season.

In the state team tournament, they have been unstoppable, beating Walnut Hills (5-0) and Colerain (5-0) to reach the final 16 teams in the state.

Then, on Mon., May 18, the VA seniors played their final home match against St. Xavier in a state match. SHS was once again flawless, beating one of the most talented teams in the city (St. Xavier) to reach the elite eight.

The next day, the Aves played Mason for a spot in the final four in the state. Even Mason could not hold back SHS, as the Aves walked away with yet another 5-0 win.

This win means they will be competing in Columbus for the state title on June 30.

In the individual state tournaments, all seven VA players won Divisionals and Sectionals, and will all be competing at Districts for a spot in the final four at Columbus.

Singles players for the individual state tournaments include senior and captain Deepak Indrakanti, senior Aditya Venkitarama, and sophomore Regis Liou. The doubles pairings are senior Nakul Narendran with junior Alex Taylor, and senior Alex Wittenbaum with sophomore Noah Stern.

The starting line up for the team tournament is Indrakanti at first singles, Taylor at second, and Stern at third. Doubles pairings are Narendran with Wittenbaum at first doubles, and Venkitarama with Liou at second.

“It is so exciting to be playing in the SHS tennis program right now. We are truly at our best, and it is amazing to be a part of,” said Liou.

If VA wins the tournament, that would mean the entire SHS program would go undefeated. This would be an unbelievable accomplishment for all three SHS teams.
