Human life may be venturing to Mars as soon as the 2030’s. While NASA does not have an active human Mars program yet, it is hoping to get there.

Although the mission will be no easy task, there has been a recent discovery that could be promising for human survival.

NASA is said to have found evidence of liquid water currently flowing on Mars. This is an exciting and promising piece of evidence which would definitely help strengthen NASA’s bid to get human life on Mars.

According to The New York Times, the director of NASA’s planetary science division, James L. Green, said during a news conference on Mon. Sept 28, “This is tremendously exciting. We haven’t been able to answer the question, ‘Does life exist beyond Earth?’ But following the water is a critical element of that. We now have, I think, great opportunities in the right locations on Mars to thoroughly investigate that.”

The problem with sending humans to Mars is the fact that most people are terrified to venture out so deep into outer space since they know that they will not be returning back to Earth.

Freshman Genevieve Marsh said, “I most certainly would not go because I’d be too scared to go out into space and not be able to come back to Earth. We are already striving here on Earth, so why should we go to a planet with no guarantee of survival?”

Even though there is proof of water on Mars, no one knows if it is toxic to humans or not. The question is, who will be the first one to find out?

Freshman Ryan Hertlein said, “The only way I would want to live on Mars is if there was already an established colony with me. I definitely would not be the first one to test out the water, also”.

Most people would agree that they would not go to Mars because of the enormous sacrifices they would have to make, but there already are more than 200,000 people ready to volunteer to go to Mars, according to CNN (Cable News Network).

If humans were able to survive and set up a functioning colony on Mars, it could lead to the depopulation of the Earth, which would significantly help the climate and ecosystems here.
