Varsity swimming swims into action

Monday Nov. 9th and Tuesday Nov. 10, the SHS varsity swim team held tryouts. The varsity team is now comprised of 41 swimmers, 19 boys and 22 girls. The team is coached by, head coach Daniel Carl, and assistant coach Stephen Langdon In high school swimming, there are eight events to choose from. 100 fly, back, breast, and free; 200 free and IM, and the 500 free.
Freshman Jason Merkel said, “I am excited to be on varsity as a freshman. I think it will be a really good season, I am looking forward to everything.”
The varsity will have their first meet of the season, at home against Moller and Mount Notre Dame. The team is led by three male seniors, and nine female seniors. The varsity team will have eight regular meets this year, along with two qualifiers.
Senior Jory Gould said, “I’m really excited for this season, it’s my last and i really hope everything turns out great and gets where they want by the end of the season.”
The varsity team also consists of several state qualifiers from last year, and hopefully some more this year.
Senior Maya Sheth said,” This team looks very promising. I am excited for my last season. I think everyone will do very well and end up where they want to be by the end of the season.”
