3,000 participants all at one convention, all there for the same purpose. To collaborate and learn about different cultures and be social all at the same time.

Model UN began with its first meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 9. It’s first convention was at Mount Notre Dame high school and the another at University of Dayton.

Senior Max Weiss said, “The conventions are a really great experience for students trying to get involved in a thought provoking club.”

Student choose a partner and then choose a country amongst themselves. These students will then be presented with problems and they will need to use their research and problem solving skills to solve these issues.

The club will also travel to Chicago this year for the MUNUC conference for the entire country. In the past, SHS has won multiple awards against other schools around the country.

Junior Drew Schneider said, “This was my first meeting with Model UN, and I think I am really going to enjoy it. Even though I am a junior joining, I still felt very welcome.”
The club will also travel to the Ohio State University for another convention. Students will compete against other students in the area for awards and prizes.

Junior Jannan Sivaruban said, “Currently I am the treasurer of the club, and I have no regrets. It’s a fantastic club, and I encourage everyone who is even a little bit interested to give it a try.”

The club members want it to be clear that Model UN is not only to help social skills and learn about culture, but also to make new friends and meet people from all over the country.
