Can Mars support life, or did it at one time? Scientists believe that at one time there may have been oceans, lakes, or other bodies of water on Mars at some point.
Chemistry teacher Chad Husting said“This is very interesting. I will follow this keenly, it’s very important. I never thought that something like this would be discovered in my lifetime.”
Ice had been found some time previously on Mars, however the fact that liquid water was found on Mars makes many hopeful that actual life may be found as well.
The expressed sentiment is particularly relevant for all those who have signed up for the Mars One trip. The first manned trip will be in 2026.
Sophomore Luke Tenbarge said “I think it’s crazy that people would leave Earth-why? It’s such a long trip, and your life there would be terrible. I’d never go.”
The Mars One website claims that they have all the technology necessary for sustaining life on Mars. However many remain cautious, as this is a revolutionary voyage.
Tenbarge said “Maybe I’d go if I knew it was safe, but for now it doesn’t seem like that.”
The idea behind the Mars One trip is to spread humanity out, as a security measure.
