Two teams battle for crown
January 8, 2016
The National Collegiate Athletic Association Football National Championship game is right around the corner.
This year the game will be played on Mon. Jan. 11 between number one Clemson and number two Alabama. The top two teams in the nation will be squaring it off head to head in the final.
Clemson booked its ticket to the championship by defeating number four Oklahoma en route to a 37-17 win in the Orange Bowl.
Freshman Kevin Jaffe said, “It was a great game to watch! I was on the edge of my seat the whole game, and I hope that the National Championship game is going to be as good as that game was!”
Alabama on the other hand slugged evenly with number four Michigan State for a quarter before snowballing a lead that they never looked back on.
Jaffe said, “It seemed that it would be one of those boring defense-oriented games where no one can score. Alabama then came out and smoked Michigan State, and I was shocked at how quickly the game had gotten out of control!”
Although Clemson is the number one team, Alabama is favored by seven points. This is mainly because of their defense and Heisman-winning running back Derrick Henry.
David Purdum of ESPN said, “Alabama has been favored in 80 of their past 81 games, including all three national championship game appearances under coach Nick Saban. They’ve won all three of those title tilts.”
