Andy Weir’s novel gives readers a glimpse at life beyond earth, and the struggles life on Mars would give.

In the book, Mark Watney, an astronaut, is left behind during an expedition to Mars.

Using the materials that were still available for use, Watney must use his studies in botany and mechanics to survive.

The book contains a lot of science material, however it just adds to the appeal to the book. Weir’s intensive research creates a very realistic approach to the topic, including materials, devices, and methods used by NASA. .

According to the NASA, “The Martian merges the fictional and factual narratives about Mars, building upon the work NASA and others have done exploring Mars.”
This topic of going to Mars is all over the news right now, as a serious trip, the Mars One trip will actually send humans to Mars.

According to Mars One, “Human settlement of Mars is the next giant leap for humankind. Exploring the solar system as a united humanity will bring us all closer together.”
The Martian was also created into a major motion picture, which was released early fall. It follows the book and stars Matt Dammon as Mark Watney.
Overall, the book is very well-written and allows readers to step outside a realm of their own, to experience the struggles that no man has gone through before.

According to “The Martian”, by Andy Weir, “I guess you could call it a ‘failure’, but I prefer the term ‘learning experience’.”
