Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs is not your typical book, in fact it strives to be that.
Riggs uses both disturbing vintage photos, plucked from collectors, and an unsettling plot line to create a story that is more dynamic.
The story follows a teenage boy on a journey to reveal the truth in his grandfather’s story, in which he meets people with talents, that are say, peculiar.
Ransom Riggs author of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children said , “There was a girl who could fly, a boy who had bees living inside him, a brother and sister who could lift boulders over their heads.”
The book is part of a trilogy, and will be coming out as a movie in Dec. of 2016, and is directed by Tim Burton.
According to Goodreads, “It is a spine-tingling fantasy illustrated with haunting vintage photography, it will delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows.”
The combination of the photos and text truly offers something more than an average book, and the unsettling nature of the plot leads to a truly fantastic read for anyone who likes a bit of creepy.
Riggs said, “Every time he described [the monsters] he’d toss in some lurid new detail: they stank like putrefying trash; they were invisible except for their shadows; a pack of squirming tentacles lurked inside their mouths.”
