Senior captains Michael Sorger, Kevin Fitzgerald, Tommy Barnhorst, and Andres Cardenas helped lead the Varsity Men’s Lacrosse team to victory against Indian Hill on April 21. Junior goalie Evan Schuster came up big with a set of clutch saves to help propel the Aviators to their eventual 9-5 victory. The competitive game against the Braves is the seventh in a series of highly contested matches between the two teams spanning the last seven years.

Rivalries are the life-blood of sports: competition is fierce, tension runs high, and the battle is taken personally. On Apr. 21 the Varsity Men’s Lacrosse team faced rival Indian Hill, a match up marked with intensity in recent years.

Senior captain Michael Sorger said, “Our match up with Indian Hill has been decided in overtime five of the last seven years. Last year we won on a last second goal.”

The heat of previous competition seeped into this match up, as both teams battled it out. With key saves by junior goalie Evan Schuster, as well as leadership by senior captains Sorger, Kevin Fitzgerald, Tommy Barnhorst, and Andres Cardenas, the Aviators were able to claim a 9-5 victory.

Fitzgerald said, “After the game, I found out that Indian Hill had beaten Summit Country Day earlier in the season, a team we lost to by ten. That definitely added to how impressive the win was.”

Coming just five days after a tough home loss to Moeller, the team looks to use the momentum of this win to propel them into the remainder of the season.

Fitzgerald said, “I think we’re really starting to come together as a team. Hopefully we’ll use this win to fuel us during our upcoming matches.”
