The boys Varsity Gold tennis team and fans celebrate a win against Toledo St. Johns. The team won with a final score of 5-0. Among the crowd were recent graduates Alexander Wittenbaum and David Muskal.

The boys Varsity Gold tennis team was busy this past week (April 18 through 22) with a handful of matches. They played a match every day.
The team played Middletown, Princeton, Upper Arlington, Lakota West, and Toledo St. Johns. They won all of those matches, most notably against Upper Arlington and Toledo St. Johns.
Junior Noah Stern said, “Winning both of those tough matches against two good teams was a huge confidence boost for us. They were statement-wins.”
Coming up this week (April 25-30), the boys will be playing matches against Colerain and Lakota East as well as starting their first postseason tournament: the Coaches’ Classic.
Stern said, “We will be heavy favorites in winning the whole tournament, but it’s our job to go out and do it. Our biggest opponent will probably be Mason.”
Coaches’ Classic is a tournament for your position and for your team. What that means is that if you are first singles, then you play a tournament against all the other first singles players in the southwest district.
The same is true for all the other positions on the tennis team.
Stern said, “In order to win the entire Coaches’ Classic Tournament as a team, your team has to win at least three of the individual positions. It doesn’t matter which ones.”
Matches for Coaches’ Classic will be held on Thurs. April 28 and Sat. April 30 at Mason Middle School.
