Large and still mighty

After intense two day clinics on Mon. and Tues. April 11 and 12 of learning a routine and technique, SHS’ dance team expanded their once-small team from five to 13. Tryouts were then held that Wednesday and Thursday.
Freshman London Brinkman said, “This year is going to be different. But it’s going to be a good different. I can feel it.”
The tryouts consisted of the girls performing the dance they learned in the clinics twice and displaying the technique they were taught or knew. The girls also had a chance to show off any tricks that they knew prior to the clinics.
Upon deciding on the team, it held a meeting on Thurs. April 21 to go over the schedule for the year, the logistics of the team and introducing everyone. Introduction came from the new co-coach, science teacher Mrs. Kim Cooper.
Cooper said, “I am super excited. I want the Flyerettes to be great and I want people to want to be on the team and say ‘Wow’ they are good. We are going to be good this year.”
Cooper is replacing math teacher Miss Mackenzie Wall. While she is not a coach, she is going to help the team when she can, especially with choreography.
The team has a busy slate this year. They are going to perform at multiple boys’ and girls’ soccer games, two football games and girls’ and boys’ basketball games and pep rallies.
Their purpose is to bring their name out in more places and increase school spirit.
Another change that came is the addition of alternates. Alternates are four girls who will not necessarily be performing at all of the games but will practice and learn with the team.
Amid all these changes, the Flyerettes are ready to continue their climb back to the top.
