As One Direction went on their hiatus, fans wondered what would come next for the band. Niall Horan has taken this break as a time to create his own music, as former bandmate Zayn Malik did.
“I think that it is cool how Niall is releasing his own music because in One Direction’s songs he never really had a big part and his voice got lost among the four other voices. But now he has definitely shared his voice with the world, “ said Lily Martinson, 11.
Horan’s single, ‘This Town’, released Sept. 29, is about the things that are never said after a relationship ends. It contrasts pop songs today by being raw and acoustic as opposed to the electronic and auto tune sound of others.
“It surprised me when I heard the song because it reminded me of their old music like ‘little things’ because it was more of a ballad, but I think that it fit Niall extremely well,” Martinson said.
A live performance music video was released on the same day as the single, on a VEVO for Horan specifically. This leaves fans wondering if the hiatus is really just a break or something more permanent.
“I know most of us are hoping that they get back together, but I will support them no matter where they go from here. I’m just happy that I’ve been able to see them through the past five years,” Martinson said.
