Can Bonner win Mr. Football?

I was speaking with 2017 linebacker Josh Glynn about their excellent season so far and he brought up that 2017 running back Ra’Von Bonner has a very legitimate chance to win Ohio Mr. Football, which is the highest honor an Ohio high school football player can receive (think the Heisman Trophy but for high school). Bonner is not a shoo-in by any means, however. Toledo Central Catholic running back Michael Warren, a Toledo Rockets commit, has scored over 30 touchdowns this year. Pittsburgh running back Todd Sibley (Archbishop Hoban HS) and Harding HS quarterback/athlete Lynn Bowden are also near the top of the list for the award.

Past winners of the award include Ohio State quarterback Joe Burrow (2014- Athens HS), Ohio State linebacker Dante Booker (2013- St. Vincent- St. Mary HS), and North Carolina quarterback Mitch Trubisky (2012- Mentor HS).

If I had to guess, Bonner will not win simply due to the lack of recognition for SHS. Bonner is certainly good enough and has the numbers to prove it, but I believe that Warren will swoop in and steal the award from Bonner.

You can vote at this link as to who you think should be Ohio Mr. Football. Bonner has about 4% of the vote right now.

Signing day coming soon for tennis

Tennis signing day is on Monday and several SHS seniors could be making their college commitments official. Wagner commit Neil Yejjey could be signing Monday (although I expect he will not), and I know of at least one other player who will be signing Monday to play tennis at an in-state school.

That player has asked me not to make his name public, but it will be announced Monday. Congratulations to the SHS seniors who will be furthering their athletic careers starting next week.
