The Sycamore swim team hosted their first meet of the season on December 6. Both the mens’ and womens’ team had strong swims, defeating opposing teams Moeller and MND, respectively. Their excellent performances has set the scene for the rest of the season.

After the first meet of the season was postponed, the Aves Swimming and Diving team received a late start to the season. Despite the delay, on Tues., Dec. 6, the Aves had an extremely successful opening night.

Both the men and the women swam fantastically, bringing down the Crusaders by a two point victory and dominating the Cougars with wins in every event.

The mens’ victory was huge for the team. Moeller was the second place team at the 2016 OHSAA State Tournament, so the victory places the Aviators very high in relation to other teams.

The women showed their strong swimming ability, despite the loss of seven seniors, including multiple state qualifiers. Their early win helps set the team for more victories later this season.

Having two wins at the first meet, and first home meet, of the season is getting the team very excited.

“This victory feels amazing. We have defeated not just the sate runner-ups from last year, but also one of the most consistently strong programs in the area,” said Alex Newberg, 11.

“I think that this really helps to prove our ability remains even though we lost a ton of people last year,” said Ania Campbell, 10.

“This win is huge for us. It was our first home meet, and our first meet of the season. Especially being against the state runner-up from last year, this really shows how we can do this season,” said Noah Patterson, 10.
