The non-fiction book section will conclude with a group project. The project will be worked on by a group of three to four students. It will be due by the end of the semester.

Do you ever read non-fiction? English 10 Accelerated classes are dividing into groups to read different non-fiction books. Students had a choice between about five or so books and picked their top three.
The books are “Mindset” by Carol Dweck, “Just Mercy” by Bryan Stevenson, “Omnivore’s Dilemma” by Michael Pollan, “The Smartest Kids in the World” by Amanda Ripley, and “Outliers” by Malcolm Gladwell.
From those three, teachers tried to make groups of students based off their first choice, obviously not everyone got their first choice but teachers tried to pair the student with their top choice.
“This English project is very complex,” said Laura Mihlbachler, 10.
As they continued reading, some students fell in love with their book…or fell asleep. While a few students on one book were deeply engaged in their book and could not stop reading, others were struggling to stay awake.
“We have to go into depth on the claim of the entire book,” said Mihlbachler.
During the assignment of reading, teachers asked students to write a blog for Blackboard on their honest feelings on the book. As the unit continues, there will be more blogs due. The final project is a digital interactive media presentation.
“But, its also fun to choose a book and give evidence on what the overall claim is,” said Mihlbachler.
