Abigail Hausefeld, 11 looks to pass the ball after making a save. Hausefeld has been the Varsity goalie since her sophomore year. She is considering playing in college.

The annual David McLennan Invitational was held Friday, Sept. 23 and Saturday, Sept. 24. It is the only tournament hosted by SHS.

“The David McLennan tournament is really exciting because it is our only home tournament. A lot of teams from all over Ohio come to play,” said Grace Mather, 12.

SHS won the tournament in the 2015 season, going undefeated for the entire tournament. This year, the team hoped to repeat that success.

“We really wanted to win it for the second year in a row. It was really important to us to defend our home pool,” said Mather.

The team ended the weekend with a 4-0 record, defeating three teams that they had played previously and lost to. The game results are as follows:

12-2 win over Mason High School
7-5 win over Thomas Worthington High School
13-0 win over Sylvania High School
7-4 win over Milford High School

“The weekend was incredible. I am so happy that we won and made it a two year streak. I also think it really shows how we have improved so far this season. Hopefully we will keep improving and have a good showing at the state tournament,” said Sarah Abraham, 11.

The next game for the team will be senior night, which is on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at SHS. For more water polo coverage, click here.
