Flyerettes appear in pep rally

HITTING IT. The Flyerettes are performing their routine. For the team, the pep rally symbolizes the beginning of their performance season; while they are aiming for more fall events to dance at, this is normally their first big performance. For the two four year seniors, it was an emotional time that marks the beginning of the end to their high school dance career. “The Homecoming pep rally was really exciting because it was our chance to show the school what we are made of. I loved performing that dance and it made my last pep rally something to remember,” said Hannah Young, 12 and co-captain.

  • GETTING LOW. The Sycamore Dance team, the Flyerettes, is beginning their routine during the Homecoming pep rally on Friday Oct. 7. They learned the dance from a Universal Dance Association (UDA) camp from Mon. July 18-Thurs July 21 at the Great Wolf Lodge in Mason. UDA hired a choreographer, to teach this routine, who has worked with many artists and performers including being a backup dancer for Beyonce. All photos courtesy of McDaniel’s Photography.

  • STRIKE A POSE. The dance team is ending their routine by hitting a strong pose. They began working on this dance in mid-August by reviewing the moves. Then the team and coaches moved on to what dancers call “cleaning.” Cleaning is going over the routine to make sure every dancer is doing the correct moves and their arms and legs are in the right position. By doing the dance over and over, the team is also working on endurance to perform the routine well throughout the whole two minute routine, and do it with energy and strong.

  • WALKING IT OUT. Hours after dancing at the pep rally at SHS, the Aves Dance team went to downtown Montgomery to walk in the annual Homecoming Parade. It was a way to enjoy their success of their performance together while waving, passing out candy and shaking their poms. They made and brought signs along with their speakers for music and the cuteness of Coach Elise WIlliams’ kids.

  • SHAKE IT OUT. Two members of the dance team are waving towards the Sycamore community. Some girls are wearing their gold senior jerseys, instead of the green ones. The seniors decided to wear them outside of the one time they normally wear them, which is their senior night basketball game in February.
