Women’s March empowers students

  • SHS students and teachers joined the thousands downtown to march for women’s rights. Annie Marsh, 11, participated. She was trying to take a stand during this controversial time in the political sphere.

  • Patriotic spirit and a fervor for equality filled the air. “I felt it was important to use my voice since I am not yet old enough to vote. It is important to exercise your right to express your opinion as an American,” said Emily Chien, 11.

  • Sentiments focusing on gender and racial equality were on signs and shirts. They were even on animals. This pup sported a sign reading “Impeach Hate” on an image of a peach.

  • Females from all generations participated in the Women’s March. Mothers, daughters, and sisters held signs such as this one. It reads: “The power of the people is stronger than the people in power.”

  • The streets in front of Music Hall were crowded with women, men, and children. Everyone was supportive. Most held signs and sang songs or called chants to encourage empowerment as they marched,
