Baking beyond basics

ASL student goes above, beyond for treats

“If baking is any labor at all, it’s a labor of love. A love that gets passed from generation to generation,” author Regina Brett once said.

That love is witnessed every month by the American Sign Language (ASL) Club. For every meeting, the members receive treats that go beyond a simple batch of cookies or brownies.

Senior Hannah Baum has come to every ASL Club meeting since she came to the high school. And she makes different baked goods for each meeting.

For the ASL Club’s February meeting, she “spent five hours making cake pops shaped in a heart, decorated with icing,” said Mrs. Nicole Price.

She even wrapped each cake pop individually.

“[She shows some] ‘unseen’ Aviator talent!” Price said.
