Artists display work, win awards

On April 26, seven SHS art students were a part of the Taft Museum’s Artists Reaching Classrooms (ARC) Art Exhibition at the Cincinnati Library, main branch. The Sycamore art program is in its fourth year of a five year program with ARC.

The exhibition included 12 high schools from the Cincinnati area, with a total of about 80 works showcased.

“The show is juried, and the reception and awards ceremony… honored these young artists [who participated],” said Mrs. Kathy Ferguson, art teacher.

Sycamore won three awards. Senior Emily Hartwig won the award given a top entry from the seven entries for each school. Among the three top awards from the Taft Museum, junior Madison Ringer won second place, and senior Haley Shearing won third place, an honorable mention.

Other students showcased in the exhibit were seniors Megan Combs, Andrew Quantz, Allison Kossen, and Brooke Baker.

The show runs through May 18, so come down to visit and check out these students’ artwork!
