PASS IT UP. Takuto Hatase, 9, pass-sets a ball to the outside hitter. This season marks Hatase’s first year of playing volleyball. On the JV team, he plays all-around as the team’s setter.

BLOCK PARTY. Trevor Kress, 10, jumps to block the outside hitter of the opposing side. Alp Basaran, 11, also tries to help Kress and close the block. The SHS JV boys volleyball team was playing La Salle.

TIGHT SPACE. Azadvir Singh,11, attempts to tip the ball over the block. Singh plays middle blocker on the JV team. Middle blockers are usually the tallest people on the team as the position mainly focuses on block the opposing hitters.

TEACHING MOMENT. The assistant coach pulls AJ Fryman, 11, to the side to give a piece of advice. Fryman plays outside hitter on the team. He also plays all-around, rarely subbing out.
